Changes Not Preserved When Saving in Photoshop

This is a recurring problem for me, and I'm hoping someone can help. Whenever I try to save a file in Photoshop, (in this case saving in Tif format) the final image doesn't preserve all of my edits. So for example, in the current image I'm working on, the background was dark grey with some extra things in it I didn't want. I added a black color layer, and then used a mask to reveal the subjects. When I save, whether the image is flattened, merged, or the file is saved with layers, you can see pieces of the background showing through, almost as though the mask work was not fully completed. This is not present in the PSD file. I cannot figure out how to save this file so it looks like the PSD file. Someone please tell me what I am doing wrong!! This can't be expected functionality.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Bob.

I’m not sure if this applies or not, but if you are working in a psd (for example) and want to save in another format, such as a tiff, the procedure is:

  • First Save the psd
  • Then Save As for the tiff

Is that what you are doing? There should not be an asterisk on the file name tab indicating unsaved changes when you save to the new format.

Hi Jane-e, yes there were multiple edits made, and I was saving to the PSD file prior to Saving as Tiff

I have similar problem... I am real estate photographer... used Photoshop

Elements for years and just subscribed to Photoshop CC and Lightroom

Classic. I save adjustments to PSD as I progress and then Save As.. to JPeg

to put in my desktop folder to put on MLS. But my JPeg saved photo does not

reflect all adjustments made in Photoshop.???

I am running out of things to try.

Thanks for any suggestions.

You would need to upload the save layered file and post a link to it so other can have a look at the layers to see if the layers  look like the have been incorrectly saved or they look like your layer have problems.
