Changing skin color on a graphic

I am trying to change the skin colotr on a graphic, so I have two versions of the same graphic - one White and one Black. I have tried to find it on my own, with no luck. I tried Image/Adjustments/Replace Color/ Hue/Saturation, but I can't get the color right - not even close.

This is the image I am trying to change. So how do I change the skin color from White to Black(actually brown).

Try Select -> Color range. Reduce the fuzzines until you are able to highlight the desired color as accurately as possible.

This illustration was made in a vector editor. Usually authors provide source files for such changes. If for some reason you are forced to work with a rasterized image without breaking it into elements, then in order to get a high-quality result, you cannot avoid painstaking work (since you need to change not only the skin color, but also all strokes, shadows, overlays)
