Clipping mask isn't showing layer underneath

Hi,

As the title says, I'm having some issues with clipping masks, potentially from not understanding it fully. I've created a polka dot pattern that I'm going to use later, but ideally I need them to be a certain colour. To do so, I've created a solid colour layer above the polka dot layer, made it the colour I want, and then created a clipping mask, but it doesn't show the pattern underneath, only the solid colour.

Any help would be appreciated.
