clipping masks and adjustment layers

Hi

I'm getting a little frustrated with this problem

I'm working on a picture, trying to finish my background.

Got several layers.

I have my clouds in a layer

Above those clouds I added 2 adjustment layers: curves and photofilter

I turned those 2 adjustment layers into clipping masks (on the clouds)

The effect of my adjustment layers is completely gone

Shouldn't those adjustment layers be applied on my clouds only ?

Or am I getting this wrong.

thanks for some help

Enjoy the day

    ok, I understand

    Thanks for the info

So what is the best solution

I just tried applying curves (not adjustment), same problem, it doesn't apply

It does apply, but unless the Curve changes the 255/255/255 value it has noticeable effect because the layer only has pixels of 255/255/255.

Why do you want to change the clouds Layer and not simply add the Adjustment Layers atop of it?

Or rather: You should have posted meaningful screenshots including the Layers Panel of the two states (before and after clipping masking).

What colors does the actual clouds layer have?

If it’s basically just white at varying transparencies the observed change might be exactly as expected.

    Yes you are right

I was looking to add the PSD, but couldn't find how to attach the file

The Layer »clouds« only has white pixels at varying transparencies, so those two Adjustment Layers have naturally no effect on the Layer itself but only on the result of its »mixture« with the underlying layers.
