Hi,

I'm trying to make a hair selection, and found thius tutorial in which to fill the fringes in between the hair a layer is being clipped to the original photo(under a mask), and upon this new layer I'm supposed to paint the fringes which I'm able to do, but also to use clone stamp to copy some hair samples into the blank areas where hair should be.

After pressing 'Alt' and selectiong a target area, the stamp remains blank as if I haven't selected any target.

I can't figure out what am I missing..,I've followed it step by step and still having this issue.

Sure many of you used this technique... what did I miss?

Many thanks 🙂

Problem solved!!

While working on the clipped layer with the clone stamp I had tp choose from the tool's combo box (top section): "Sample: Current & Below" 🙂

The guy on the tutorial haven't mentioned it, but on other tutorial someone else did.

Many thanks everyone!

A clipped layer is like a masked layer, that is why it is officially called a 'clipping mask'. What you try to do is clone in an area that is masked by the clipping. That is why you do not see the cloned pixels. They are there, but they are masked.

I get it, but how come that in the tutorial he's doing it...

Will you care to watch just the part where he's using the clone stamp and help me realize where am I wrong?

it can be so many things.... is the mode set to "normal" in the options panel on TOP?

What is the flow of the brush set to? what is the sample set to?

are you on the correct layer to sample from?

If you want to make a hair selection, you probably want to use channels for a great selection.

cheers,

Thanks for the response,

I'm following the exact steps as in the tutorial...

He is taking samples while being ON the clipped layer, and the painting also on that same layer..

For me, I can't take a stamp sample while I'm on clipped layer, only on the original.

Check the attached screenshots, on from the youtube tutorial and the second from my workspace:

Hope you can see whatever you need.

Thanks for the help

Are you sure you're on the photo layer - and this layer is active?
