Question

Color change from Lightroom to Photoshop (and back)

I've searched quite a few other asks for answers and haven't found any to quite match what is happening. Forgive me if it has already been answered.

I usually use Lightroom to tweek photos but every once and a while I will need to use Photoshop to edit something more difficult (like hair.) Anyway, recently, when I use the "edit-in" option and open a photo I am working on from Lightroom to Photoshop the color is very different. At first I assumed it was just the difference in display between programs so I double checked that my settings were the same for both (sRGB, etc...) and they are. The image in Photoshop is much more yellow and slightly more contrasted. It remains that way when I save it back to Lightroom after making no changes. Except now the histograms for the original and the resaved photo from photoshop are different. Even tho I have made no adjustments. I'm not sure how this is happening or how to fix it.

Thank you so much for any help.

UPDATE

I had been using Lightroom CC and not Lightroom Classic CC. (I didn't even realize) So changing the calibration to Version 4 worked. It also had to upgrade the catalog to open. I'm not sure how to fix this in Lightroom CC but I think I will just, um, not use that program and skip the hassle. Thank you all for the help.

To answer above questions I am using Lightroom Classic CC release 7.4 and Camera Raw 10.4 Photoshop CC 2018 version 19.1.5

My operating system is macOS High Sierra Version 10.13.6

You have Lightroom and ACR at different version levels. Update so they match. They should be at 7.4 and 10.4 respectively.

A major change in camera profiles was made between x.2 and x.3. When you send an image from Lightroom at one version, to be opened by ACR at another version using a different camera profile, you get this visible difference. Two different camera profiles are used.

The color settings in each app, however, do not need to match. This is handled by color management and there is no such thing as a "difference in display between programs". They should always display identically no matter what the document profile is. The profile coming out of Lightroom will be preserved in Photoshop.

Edit in Photoshop records the settings in Lightroom and transfers those settings to ACR, which opens the file silently into Photoshop. But with different camera profiles those settings mean different things.

I updated all the programs yesterday after noticing this problem. Will I need to re-import the images to Lightroom for the fix to occur?

Discussion successfully moved from Adobe Creative Cloud to Photoshop

What is your Lr version (and flavour)? What is your Ps version and flavour?

What file format are you injecting from Lightroom to Photoshop? Jpeg, Raw, Tiff, ...?
