Color not exporting correctly | #f8f8f8 turns into ffffff

When exporting an image, the background color changes upon exporting.

I am exporting an image of a product that has a grey background (coming from a shape layer at the bottom). The image needs to have this grey background for it to look right on certain web pages on the website

In photoshop, it shows as #f8f8f8, however when exporting the image (and opening it in photoshop and checking the color) it is: #ffffff
When going back into photoshop document, the image background (on the shape layer) has changed to #ffffff

Export settings: PNG 24, Embed Color Profile, Convert to sRGB
Color Picker: Adobe
Colour settings: RGB (sRGB)

  1. Version of the app: Photoshop 2024 (25.3.1)
  2. Platform and OS version: macOS Sonoma Version 14.0
  3. Basic steps to reproduce the problem:
-Have an image of a product with foreground, with the background masked out
-Add a background layer using a a shape layer. Make the colour #f8f8f8
-Export with the above settings (or any settings)
  4. Expected result and actual result

The expected result is to have the background color as #f8f8f8. The actual result, is the background colour is #ffffff

Fyi I've found the issue, it was the shape layer not selecting properly 🤦‍♂

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
