Color profiles - Image loses quality when saved on Pinterest

I am having issues when saving images to Pinterest. When uploading, I immediately see the colour change after I save them, so it seems that there is no profile in my image. I have uploaded a video and screenshots to show the colour change. It seems to lose quality instantly. I have also uploaded images of the settings I am saving under. Any suggestions are highly appreciated as I have been troubleshooting this for hours.

As long as the file is sRGB and the profile is embedded, that's all you can do.

 

Some websites strip the embedded profile (as well as scaling down and compressing), and I suspect that's what happens here.

Pinterest uses its own color profile for displaying images on its platform. When an image is uploaded to Pinterest, it is automatically converted to the sRGB color profile.

If the original image was saved in a different color profile, such as Adobe RGB or ProPhoto RGB, the colors may appear dull or washed out on Pinterest.

To prevent loss of quality when saving images for Pinterest, it is recommended to save the image in the sRGB color profile before uploading it to the platform.

Alternatively, you can also use a tool like Canva or Adobe Photoshop to adjust the colors and brightness of the image to make it more vibrant before uploading it to Pinterest.

Finally, keep in mind that images on Pinterest are usually displayed at a smaller resolution than their original size, so it's important to resize the image appropriately to ensure that it looks sharp and clear on the platform.

    A profile conversion doesn't change the general color appearance - that's the whole point of the conversion. What actually happens is no doubt that the profile is simply stripped (it becomes untagged).

     

    All major web browsers today assign sRGB to untagged elements.

     

    The general rule for posting on the web is still convert to sRGB, embed the profile, done. That has the highest likelihood of being correctly represented in the highest number of possible scenarios.

    For completeness it's perhaps worth mentioning that the conversion does indeed attempt to preserve image colour balance etc, but it may not be able to preserve the full gamut.

    If the destination colourspace is smaller then image saturation can be reduced - and (because a conversion to a workingspace is always colorimetric) there could be clipping of detail in areas of high saturation.

      Thank you for your response. You are correct. I've been researching today, and it seems Pinterest compress the image quality even if you upload in the correct format and size. It is frustrating because that is where I have a following, and my artwork looks terrible, but I suppose I have to live with it 😞 Thank you again!
