Colouring in Photoshop

Hi Guys, I would like to recolour an image, with still being able to try keep the detail of an image. I have image of a brown skinned female wearing a brown face mask (cosmetic brown mask, like the one you would put onto your face and take a bath), I would like to change this to a colour I have swatched (light pink) but when I do this on photoshop it turns the colour red! Send help, can such a thing be done on Illustrator perhaps ?

I agree with @Kevin Stohlmeyer 's solution. If the selection edges are jagged, you can go over them with the blur tool, making sure to adjust the strength settings so as not to overdo it, or you can use "Refine Edge" when you make the selection.

You can make a selection then use an adjustment layer like Hue/Saturation to adjust the color (hue) of the image without losing detail. If it appears too saturated, use the saturation slider to reduce the intensity.
