Question

Command Key not reliably affecting channel layer as intended

Noticing that the 'command' key is not  working consistently in PS 25.9.1  I'm specifically trying to select a tone in the alpha 1 channel as I attempt to convert a photograph into a painting.

It will typically only work once - only after either deleting the PS prefs. or removing and reinstalling PS. Can't really work efficiently that way!

I hope that you can help! I'm a big fan of Photoshop and love generative fill!

Best,

Tracy

You can try a more thorough preferences reset by going to

Macintosh HD/Users/UserName/Library/Preferences

and trashing the

Adobe Photoshop 2024 Settings folder

First make sure any custom Workspaces you have in the Adobe Photoshop 2024 Settings/Workspaces get

moved so you can put them back after trashing the Adobe Photoshop 2024 Settings folder.

For Photoshop 25.9.1 a reset of the preferences might fix the issue:

Hi Jeff - Thanks for weighing in. I'm on 25.9.1 - I've been resetting the prefs.  it worked once or twice then didn't. I also un-installed then re-installed Photoshop. It did ask when i was re-installing PS if I wanted to also download the Generative Fill bit - which was in Beta - so maybe i should un-install and try not installing the Generative Fill addition. I thought that I had to... I expect it will eventually work itself out with their next update. I'm already on the latest Mac OS so I can't change that one.

Did you install Photoshop 25.9.1 or the Photoshop Beta 25.11?

I ask because in the Photoshop Beta there is an issue when using Generative Fill for things like like Watercolor painting.

IDEA! Could be a throttling issue with Generative AI. I think if you use it too much it dials back my access - which would explain why sometimes it worked and sometimes it doesn't. Also - I read that it only likes files under 25 mb. Thanks for all of your help Jeff and Bojan!

When following the video instructions the Generative Fill box does not 'pop up'  after exiting quick mask (although it's available from the drop down menu) When Generative fill is selected from the drop down menu- the mask is not applied and the entire image turns into a random painting.

I'm also on the lates Mac OS and have also re-installed Photoshop with the Beta Generative Fill...

Hello Jeff, unfortunately still not working... Not saving the selection - only 'saving all' despite trying many times and following both your example image and the video using quick mask... It only 'selects all' in both cases... I'm not giving up though!!

Without actually making the Alpha channel active you could go to Select>Load Selection.

You could also use Quick Mask Mode as described here:
