Compatible GPU Shows "Use Graphics Processor" Error Message

Yes I have the NVTT exporter (both in standalone or plugin variety) and use it often, but I wanted something that would allow quick height-->normal conversion wihtout having to save and then load files since I wanted to keep the result inside photoshop. 

Might be possible to write a script that uses it to convert and then automatically return the result as a new layer but I just can't make heads or tails of Photoshop scripting. too much of it is random number codes left over from who knows what decade.

I put together a work-around too. This one comes straight from Nvidia. It's called the Nvidia texture tool exporter. It's chief function is to convert images for use in 3D materials texture samples.

Important Note:

Use the stand-alone version (left link in download section, halfway down the page). The Adobe-integrated version is buggy and cumbersome.

Same here. started happening lately. Last two or three weeks, maybe? 

I have an RTX 4080, up to date driver and everything.

My current workaround, if anyone's interested, is through Paint.net, a basic paint program for wiondows which has a 3rd-party normal map plugin you can download here:

This way I can copy a layer's contents, convert to normal map on Paint.net, then copy and paste back into photoshop. 

There used to be an Nvidia normal map plugin that just converted height maps to normal maps and didn't require any 3d acceleration, why can't they just recompile that one to work on modern PS versions.

The deprecated features are left in as part of Adobe's comprehensive approach to product promotion, which obviously includes guerrilla marketing tactics. (Adobe is too adept at everything to allow such oversights, residual menu items in particular) Case in point, the simplest thing in the world for Adobe to do is to remove deprecated features from in-app menus. Adobe leaves them in to instigate the problem-solution scenario used to elicit a sale. The loss of an operation creates the problem, the solution for which is whatever new app Adobe spins off from said deprecation(s).

Given all the overlap in Adobe products, why else would they take everything ellse out under "3D" but leave just "normal" and "bump" creation in, if only in spirit? It's because normal and bump creation likely had/have the highest use profile out of all the depreceated 3D operations Photoshop provided.

God! I love Adobe. I've been Adobe fan since the 90s. And I will never leave. But man, do I hate being sold like this.

@GOD-sSs-END not sure why Adobe left the options there, but I'm sure they will be removed in a future update, you can install version 22.2 from the Creative Cloud app as per the link I posted above, you can have 22.2 installed along side 25.4

So, how do I now create a normal or a bump map?

Also, I have the latest Photoshop, yet the options still show. What do I do about that or than not use them?

More importantly, though, I need this normal. What do I do now to create my own normals?

The 3D tab in preferences and the 3D option from the menu bar have been removed in version 25.4

I performed a recheck and several tests using different images, anything I could think of really.

All failed.

Simply put, Photoshop says my GPU is good to go but then won't perform any 3D operations on any images.
