Question

Computer runs very slow when Photoshop is open

Hi everyone,

My computer gets really slow when Photoshop is open and I have a high-quality laptop that should support this software. I read some posts about adjusting the memory in Photoshop, but I don't know how to do that. Can someone help me or give me a few pointers? This especially happens when I use artboards, but it slows down in general whenever Photoshop is open.
Thank you!

Jamie

If you have dual GPUs, that's a common problem with laptops. Photoshop uses the GPU to do actual data processing, and the result returned to Photoshop for further processing. So obviously GPU switching simply can't happen - you can't send data to one GPU and get it back from the other.

If that's the case, try to disable the integrated Intel GPU, and run only on the discrete Nvidia/AMD GPU.

Another common GPU-related problem is buggy drivers. If possible, go to the GPU manufacturer and update the driver (not the laptop manufacturer).

Hi,

We're sorry about the trouble with Photoshop. Would you mind sharing the version of Photoshop you're using along with your computers operating system & configuration?

You can try optimizing the preferences of Photoshop using the steps suggested here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/optimize-photoshop-cc-performance.html

Regards,

Nikunj

Hi Nikunj,

Thanks for helping. I'm using Photoshop 22.11 on a Windows intel Core i7 vPRO 10th Gen.
