Conceal and reveal

when I am using a mask layer the brush does not reveal and conceal.  I could not find this issue listed in your faults for the current version.  after spending most of the day not understanding why this suddenly started happening I went back 4 versions and had to uninstall and reinstall an older version to eventually get it to work.  I noticed the cloning stamp issue has been reported.

when and what version is it likely the masking brush will work?

I reistalled version 23.2.0 to ge the brush to work in masking.  I sue macOS Monterey version 12.5.

open an image in photoshop.  open a second image and layer above each other.  open a layer mask and set it to anything - normal or lighten doesnt matter, click on the brush tool with black to reveal.  nothing happens.

I haven't seen any reports of issues with the masking and brush tools so it most likely is not your Photoshop install.

Try this - choose a standard round brush and then click "D" on your keyboard to default to pure black and white. Click the flip icon to swap and put black to the foreground (white in the background). Does the masking improve?

You shouldn't change the blend mode on the layer if you are trying to see masking results. Keep it on normal and adjust after you've applied the mask.

Black conceals (hides) and White reveals.
