Constant crashing and resets while working in Photoshop 22.5.1 on Windows 10

Hi,
I'm using Windows 10.0.19042 and Photoshop 22.5.1. My drivers are all up to date. I am experiencing constant crashes with Photoshop. When I try to open files, I get a program error message. Then if I try to close Photoshop, it will repeat that there's a program error and will not close.

I am able to close Photoshop if I use the Windows Task manager, and I am able to open files if I hold ctrl+alt+shift while I open the application and delete my preferences. I have to do this almost every time the program chashes to continue to work. I've done it at least 5 times today.

I've tried installing an earlier version (22.4) and am still dealing with these issues.

While my work is progressing, this is seriously slowing me down. It's extremely frustrating. Is there an update or something I'm not seeing on my end?

Hey all,
Thanks for the responses. Sorry for the imprecise language. I suppose this is just more of a bug than a crash or a freeze. The program simply does not function if I try to open a file off of my desktop. If I try to open a file I get the attached message. If I try to close Photoshop afterward, I get the attached message. The only way to close Photoshop is if I use the Windows Task Manager.

I can open my files ONLY if I delete my Photoshop settings file every time (using Shft+alt+Ctrl) on opening. Turning off my GPU does sometimes help with being able to reopen Photoshop, but not always, and doing so makes my work way slower because my file sizes are large.

My files also appear to be less stable- my brush will suddenly turn to a move tool and I won't be able to affect anything in the Photoshop window- menus or canvas. it's effectively a freeze with a mouse that I can still move. This causes me to have to reset Photoshop and start the whole "delete settings/ update settings" and then get to work process all over again.

|I'm losing a lot of time on my projects because of this bug, and it's incredibly frustrating. What else should I try?

Quit Photoshop. Before you open any files, disable "Use Graphics Processor" under Preferences > Performance. Does that abate the issue?

See my comment above. Sometimes it does, other times, not. When I boot up, I still have to delete my settings. If I turn the GPU off, I can close and reopen PS and it usually works. However, when I boot up again, no such luck. Also, It's difficult to work with GPU off because of my files sizes.

Unfortunately, I can't afford to spend time troubleshooting this version any longer. My current fix (which appears to work) is: I've uninstalled Photoshop 22 entirely and reverted to Photoshop 21. Everything works great again.

I'm not seeing any submitted crash reports from you in our system.

If you haven't done so already, please submit all Crash Reports along with your email address: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/submit-crash-reports.html

Hi,

We're sorry about the trouble with Photoshop. Please try disabling the option to Use Graphics Processor from Photoshop by going to Preferenes, then Performance. Once done, quit & relaunch Photoshop to check if that helps.

If the issue persists, you can try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/2Qzc0K3

Please backup your settings prior to resetting the preferences. You can check: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG
