Content Aware Crop not working

I just installed the latest Photoshop CC on a new Lenovo ThinkPad. I'm trying to do a Content Aware Crop but after checking the box, it disappears when I activate the crop tool, and the extended area is not filled.

Inspiring

I am using Photoshp 21.21. It's the first time I have ever tried this, but I cannot get it to work. The instructions seem simple enough, so what am I missing?
