Question

Content Aware Fill causes edges of a picture to lose color

Hey all,

Appreciate anybody taking the time to read this and help out.

I've been trying to download pictures from ShutterStock in the past couple of weeks and fill them up in certain ways to fit the ratio needed for covers.
I've been putting most of the image in the lower half of the canvas and then filling the top half with a content aware fill.
Unfortunately while the middle gets most of the coloring right, the edges keep turning white or grey or brighter versions of the colors that I'm targeting.

I don't know if this is a known problem for most professional photoshop users and has an easy fix but since I use the program for very simple things I'm stuck.

Really do appreciate anybody who's willing to look into this, I'm lost haha.

Thanks!

It looks like it's using the "wrong parts" of the image. I personally prefer the patch tool. You can use both. You are 90% of the way there with this. Just use the patch tool to fill out the corners.

Have you already updated your photoshop to the last version? In the photoshop cc 2020 they've made a significant improvement, now you can select the source area photoshop will use to fill your image, this can really come in hand. You can find more about the feature in this post where they talk about the updates: https://community.adobe.com/t5/Photoshop/LIVE-from-Adobe-MAX-New-features-tools-and-amazing-new-reveals/td-p/10713001

Besides it you can try to fill with other solutions, like the clone stamp tool.

Thanks for the answer.

I tried reading through the post you included but haven't found anything about selecting sources areas.
Can you pin point me to a keyword I can CTRL+F it.

Also yeah I could clone stamp it but it's much more difficult then select + fill and if I can find a fix for it i'd rather do.
