Hello Everyone,

When I try to use the Content-Aware Scale Tool I have a few issues.

First, when I try to expand the photo, I only want to expand it width-wise and I do not want to expand it proportionately. However, when I try to manipulate the controls to do so it doesn't seem to work.

What do I need to do in order to expand the photo width-wise only?

If you want toe increase an image width you need to increase the canvas size. If you do that you should not have a problem. There will of course be distortion. The protection feature cab\n do just so much.
