Convert my own pencil line to pencil tool

Hello All,

I was wondering if there is a way to convert my own hand-drawn pencil line to make my own 'pencil tool' in photoshop.

I can do this via the clone stamp tool - but I'd like to find a way to make a my own pencil tool from my hand drawn line.

I find that most of the pencil presets in Photoshop don't really look like genuine pencil - or feel like a different 'style.'

At the moment I scan my drawing and work from there.

However, I draw directly onto my Wacom screen I love the intuitive lines that I can make but feel they lack the kind of authenticity I get from my own pencil.

Ultimately, I'm not expecting a 100 percent replica - but something that will look consistent whether I use my wacom or scan pencil drawings.

Any feedback would be most gratefully appreciated.

Marc

Have you checked out Kyle T Webster’s brushes?

The mobile app PhotoshopSketch was able to use brushes created in Adobe Capture that fit the brush to the length of the stroke, sort of like Illustrator's Art Brushes.

Sketch is gone now, and those brushes don't work in anything else (AFAIK). I still have a few in my Library. I wish I could use them in Photoshop.

Have you read this?

Ultimately I think »sampling« one of your pencil strokes is not the way to go.

Sampled Brushes use something like a one-channel-pixel-image that is applied along the Tool stroke; that can be randomly mirrored, scaled, … and scattered and combined with a Dual Brush and Texture (Pattern) etc. and many of the various settings can incorporate Pressure sensitivity.

You can create and sample such a »dab« and then try to figure out which features (size, opacity, …) you want to be able to determine on the fly via the pressure.

But there are also the Erodible and Bristle Brushes which work with a different basis …

Edit: And I hope you know that the Pencil Tool in Photoshop creates hard edges, so you might want to stick with the Brush Tool for many drawing tasks.

Also, if there is a particular set of good quality presets that I can purchase - that would be great...

Thanks for this link. I didn't have the mega pack - the last update I had with Kyle brushes was summer 2019. I've found that the HB Pro pencil 15 pix is a pretty close fit. Really appreciate your help. Best, Marc
