Question

Copying a graph from Excel and pasting into Photoshop is a PITA

Hi all:

This is an issue I've dealt with for ages, and it's one that I just can't believe still exists after all of this time.

I prepare many (PC hardware) performance-related graphs in Excel, and then paste them into Photoshop to add the finishing touches. This should be simple, but what happens is that I copy the graph out of Excel, and then Ctrl + N in Photoshop, which gives me the correct dimensions, based on the clipboard. But then it deletes the freaking clipboard before I can paste it in! So I have to go back to Excel, Ctrl + C the graph, and then go back to paste into the prepared white background.

Sometimes, I have to copy a graph more than once, because Photoshop is addicted to a previously pasted image. For example, I copy a 2160p resolution graph, go to PS, and it decides to paste in the previous 1440p graph. Over and over, until I go back and copy the graph again.

This is such a constant issue, it's obviously by design. I am wondering if there is any setting that I am not seeing that might help me out here. It's beyond frustrating when you have to deal with this issue for every graph when you have about 30 - 40.

Thanks for any help!

Rob

I'm puzzled. With Photoshop v 20.0.05 and Windows 10 (v1809), I've just tried here - copy graph in Excel, switch to Photoshop Ctrl+N then choose clipboard as the size and once open press Ctrl+V - the graph appears on new layer. Repeatedly pressing Ctrl+V adds more layers with the same graph

What does showing your clipboard in Excel look like after Ctrl+N in Photoshop, has it been cleared?

What is your clipboard setting in Windows >Settings >System>Clipboard?

Within the General section of the Photoshop Preferences is a checkbox called "Export Clipboard". Any chance this might help? Also try restarting Photoshop after changing this option.
