How do I copy and paste a marquee selection without creating a new layer with every paste?

Well that kinda works: I have to keep re-selecting an area

You can just cmd-alt-drag the Selection from its new area.

Why do you want to avoid the creation of new Layers for the pasted content anyway?

You can duplicate the selected area by cmd-alt-click-and-dragging the Selection.

Well that kinda works: I have to keep re-selecting an area, but that will do what I need it to...wish Photoshop had a simple "paste selection" function (not the same as "paste into selection" on Photoshop, which creates a new layer) like Paint Shop Pro.  That works so well but I dislike it when PSP changes the color scheme all the time...I'm trying to use Photoshop more for these simple things......thanks...
