Question

Copying gradients to another layer

With the new gradient tool using a layer mask for the selections, I am running into an issue copying a gradient selection to another layer. When I go to the second layer to move the selection, the selection moves but, the gradient stays in place. Is the only way, now, to copy a gradient from one layer to the next, is to "copy merged" the gradient selection on the first layer, then paste it on the second if planning on moving it?

Also, the "controls" for the gradient seem to "die out" after a time and all bets are off for readjusting it, is this the future expected behavior??

Yep, That works, I forgot to have the gradient tool picked when I couldn't find the "handles" for readjusting the existing gradient.

Attached is a screenshot of the copied gradient layer with the selection moved but, the gradient is gone due to the selection's location now.

Haven't heard back on the above screenshot showing my attempt at moving a copied gradient selection on a new layer. Still need to know how to do this with new gradient tool or work around.

Still haven't heard back after sending my file showing an attempt to copy a gradient to another layer and moving it successfully due to static layer mask.

@Brad22414184ax00 But honestly to achieve what you are hoping for (I think), I found it easiest to Rasterize the layer and then use Copy+Paste on a new layer.  This works well as long as you don't need to make changes to the gradient later down the line.

Hope that helps!

Please post requested screenshot or recording so we can understand what exactly is going on.

Can you show us a screenshot of your workspace with the layers panel visible?

Make sure the gradient layer is selected, and also the gradient tool.  Unless you were using Classic gradient, the controls should then be vissible in the document window and properties panel.
