Question

Could not complete the Video Frames to Layers command because the file could not be opened.

Anyone else have this issue? When I use the Video Frames to Layers command, I get this message:

Could not complete the Video Frames to Layers command because the file could not be opened.

Running Photoshop 21.2.3 on Catalina 10.15.6.

The file in question is an mp4 with the .h264 format. The file imports fine into Premiere, and can be read by Photoshop on my PC just fine. I have also tried with other mp4s on my Mac, but with the same error.

Things the support staff have tried:

- reinstalling Photoshop, Premiere and Media Encoder

- rolling back to previous Photoshop versions

- Double checking file permissions / privacy settings / read&write privileges for Photshop/Adobe programmes

Anyone facing similar issues or have a fix to suggest for this? It is really frustrating to just randomly lose such a vital part of my workflow.

Thanks,

Thadd

How many frames are in the file?

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the reply. It does not work for *any* mp4 files that I have tried, but of the two that I am using for troubleshooting now with Adobe Suport: one has about 1140 frames (38s @ ~29.7fps), the other about 2580 (1:26m @ ~29.7fps) frames.

These two files work fine with Video Frames to Layers on my PC.

Note that the file does not even open on my Mac Photshop, so I am not at that dialogue where you can specify how many frames to extract.

Thanks!
