Could not duplicate the layer because source and destination documents are the same.

I am trying to duplicate a folder within a template that contains place holders for pictures that are smart objects. I cant seem to get around this error. I have duplicated the group in the later tab, then try to move to the destination on the canvas I want the group to land. Can anyone assist?
