could not open because the result would be too big

Hi I am trying to open a .psd file I created a few days ago. When I go to open it its says... 

"filename" could not open because the result would be too big.    I made sure to update to the newest version of photoshop 22.1.1 . My computer is HP Pavillion running windows 10  - 1TB and not even 1/2 full. This file in particular is 41MB. I am able to open files that are much larger like 577MB. I don't understand why I can not open this file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sometimes if you reset the preferences is the solution

or you can install an older version of Photoshop from the Creative Cloud app to see if that works
