Could not open xxx.png because the ICC profile version is not supported

I know there's another post of the same name, but it was mainly for Mac, and went over my head. I'm using Photoshop 20.2.2 on a PC, and when I try to load a couple of pngs (attached), it comes up with the error message. Any fix or workaround? It's only a couple of pngs that do it, others work fine.

Export it from Photoshop with profile embedded (check the box).

 

To get entirely rid of the old profile, Export it without embedded profile, reopen, assign the correct profile, and Export again with profile embedded.

 

Photoshop's PNG handling is a bit buggy and unpredictable. Save As will always strip the profile, unless the profile happens to be something other than sRGB IEC61966-2.1. No, it doesn't make any sense.

 

Export is more reliable when it comes to PNG.

I exported the photo to PNG and checked both boxes in the "Color Space" options: Convert to sRGB and Embed Color Profile.

I opened it in Illustrator, and exported as a PNG which opened happily in Photoshop, but if there's any way of properly fixing it, that'd be great.

    Thanks for the fix, but the trouble is I can't open the image in Photoshop in the first place (see original post). Any way of opening it to do this?
