Create an animated gif (timeline)

I am trying to create an animated gif with three logo's I made in adobe illustrator.
So I created layers and made a transparant background as I saw in a tutorial.

But once I try to create my layers into frames I get lost. Nothings is happening when I Click on the menu.
What am I doing wrong?

    You need to start the timeline first by clicking the botton in the bottom of your first screen shot that says ’Create Frame Animation’.
