creating book graphics using book cover

Hey there!

I am looking to create book graphics using book covers. I am trying to find a way to upload a book cover and copy the background image only. When I upload the cover there is only one layer so I don't know how to separate them in order to copy the background image.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
