Creating mockups with smart object

Hello everyone,

I am attempting to make some mockups for my Behance site. Idealy I would like my art to look like it is laying down in perspective. I have seen some tutorials about this but they always say use the perspective warp tool or to use transform>perspective from the edit menu. My frustration is that when I place my artwork it imported as a smart object where those options are greyed out. I am using adobe cc 2019 on a mac. I have already checked my preferences and the use graphic processor is selected. I have also checked and my graphics processor has 1024 mb which should be enough. Does any one have any advice or maybe a tutorial you could direct me to?

You do not have to convert a placed smart object  layers to new smart object layer. If you do it make replacing the  image harder  for you need to to replace the content of the smart object within the new smart object you created converting the placed layer.  Every smart object layer has any associated transform your can change it any way you want so you do not need to create a new smart object to transform the existing smart object image layer.   Just edit the existing transform..

You can use any transform tool you want on smart object layer and keep redoing the transform till you get the view you want. I found it quit a challenge to get the transform for a floor replacement quite a  challenge.  I was not a able to do it using perspective transform.  I came close just  using free transform  to  distort the floor replacement image.

When you add the stuff as a smart object, you get just part of Smart Object features. Create a new level: convert the layer to a smart object (you will have a smart in a smart like in envelope )

The external smart will allow all kind of transformations.

    That did it! Thanks! I didn't realize you had to make a smart object out of a smart object. I appreciate the help! I was getting pretty frustrated.

    Is it a vector smart object? If so, you can rasterize it by right-clicking and going to Rasterize Layer. Then the Edit > Transform > Perspective option should become available.

      Its a placed pdf that was created in Indesign so I don't believe it's a vector. I just placed it as a smart object in the hopes that I could swap it out for something else in the future if needed.
