Creative Studio 4 recommended hardware requirements

I would like to ask a question about recommended system requirements.

I am helping a local, private, community school upgrade their computer room. Other than Microsoft Office, they also use Creative Studio 4. The teacher told me:

"We mostly used Photoshop and InDesign, occasionally illustrator was used to tweak a specialized graphic"  and continued, "The creative suites 4 version was a professional one where we would use 3D for some projects". She is perfectly okay with continuing to use CS4, and due to cost, i think that is where they will stay.

I figure these graphic program will be the most intensive use of the system, and should thus drive the hardware requirements. The idea is to put Windows 10 on the new boxes.

What would you recommend the hardware to be, especially memory wise? I assume just about any modern CPU will be able to handle the job quite well.

If you manage to get CS4 installed and running successfully, there should be zero issues with hardware.

Photoshop CS4 required 1GB RAM Older versions of Photoshop system requirements

Judging from past posts in these forums, any issues will really be with running such dated (10+ year old) legacy software on a modern operating system.

Not sure how testing will protect you. Windows 10 gets serious updates automatically so old software can stop any time.

Rollbacks, old images. virtual box. I'm not too worried.

If you want to keep using this old, expensive and excellent software FREEZE THE SYSTEMS. Do not expect it to keep running on Windows 10 as it evolves.

For the record, I keep CS4 installed to run legacy plugins in Photoshop and Illustrator under Windows 10 with no trouble.

Would InDesign or Illustrator require anything more?

I didn't think of that. A quick search found a mix of replies, and suggestion of compatibility mode.

No. All roughly the same as Photoshop. Video apps (Premiere Pro etc) are far more demanding.

InDesign: System requirements | Older versions of InDesign

Illustrator: Older versions of Adobe Illustrator system requirements

If you have issues, they're highly unlikely to be hardware ones. Modern hardware will handle CS4 with its eyes closed.

Far more likely to be Windows 10-related dealing with 10 year old Adobe code. But you might get lucky and have no issues. All depends on how you use the software.

A commercial graphic design studio using the software 24/7 would probably hit glitches daily. You might not see any with occasional use.

Having said that, if there is any budget whatsoever for teaching kids modern software and workflows (rather than 10 year old, outdated software and workflows), talk to Adobe who offer deep discounts and excellent deals for educational purposes. If they're running Windows 10, it makes sense to run Adobe Cloud software.

    Hello,

Adobe has prepared this for Adobe Creative Cloud system requirements >>> for example differenciated for "Browser Compatibility "

and the Desktop applications ...  >>> Creative Cloud apps have varying minimum operating system requirements. Refer to the following pages for the complete system requirements for your Creative Cloud app:

for example Adobe Photoshop CC >>> Photoshop system requirements  aso.
