Crop to specific pixel dimensions

Hello,

I have a scanned .tiff file of 3411x2448px (600ppi).

Now I would like to use the crop tool to crop a specific size (2265x852px). I have selected the crop tool and chose the "W x H x Resolution" option from the drop down menu. Then, I entered my needed variables, as you can see in the picture below:

Now my problem is with the preview box. It does not set the preview to my wanted dimensions, but it always covers the whole width or height of the image. If I would now simply hit enter, the result will be an image in the correct dimension (and not what the preview box showed).

So my question is: why does the preview box doesn't show the content i will actually be cropping. Now I am not able to crop my bands in a specific pixel width and height.

In this case it might be better to use the rectangular marquee and Image > Crop:

Hi

I might be missing something here but those two screenshots look correct.

You have entered an exact pixel width, height and resolution and chosen an area of the image to show at those dimensions. You can drag the crop handles if you want a different area.

The second screenshot shows that the cropped area is now set to those dimensions and the marks on the paper seem to align with the crop preview on your first screenshot.

Can you explain the issue further please.

I might indeed not have phrased my question correctly. You are right, I have entered an exact pixel width, height and resolution and chosen an area of the image to show at those dimensions.

However, what I want is the following. I would like to specifically enter the width and height in pixels. And then select (crop) a part of the image of that specific dimensions instead of that I choose the dimensions of the end result if that makes any sense?

OK

1. In Preferences>Tools make sure Show transformation values is on

2. Set your ruler to pixels (right click on the ruler)

3. Select the crop tool and press the clear button in the options bar

4. Drag the corner of the crop preview box until those pixel dimensions shown in the transform box match your requirement (I've used 600x320

4. Reposition the crop box over your wanted area - just click inside it and drag

5 Hit enter or click on the tick in the options bar
