crop tool not working, I have to use marquee tool first then click crop in the image menu

crop tool not in tools panel on left, have to marquee first and then hit crop in image menu, losing the cropped part???

Do you see Artboard tool icon instead in the Toolbox? Click and hold on Artboard tool icon to expand context menu and to select Move tool.

If you do not see Artboard and Move tool at all at the top of Toolbox try reseting it from Edit > Toolbar > Reset Defaults > Done.

Edit: wow, I missed the point and actual tool. Hovewer, tip to reset Toolbox is still valid.

What version of Photoshop do you have and do you have the essentails workspace selected, you may have another workspace selected by mistake

The first thing to try is to reset the Crop tool. Right-click the Crop tool in the options bar (not Tools panel) and choose Reset tool.

"Not working" is vague and can mean a lot of things. If resetting does not work, please clarify the issue.
