Question

cropped contact sheets

hi everybody,

I wonder if there's a way to do this...

I have a LOT of images - aquired at successive times by a microscope.

I need to produce a contact sheet with the most relevant ones, and I did it by Bridge using the ContactSheet tool.

But, since the important information in each image is located in a small area imaged by microscope, I'd like to produce a similar contact sheet with  just that area cropped on each image.

There's a way to do it???

thanks!

alessandro

You might be able to do this with ContactSheetX. It has a 'Post-Processing Action/Script' setting that is run when each sheet is finished. If you have the sheet constructed to use SmartObjects for the thumbnails, you could write a script that loops through the thumbnail layers and resizes/crops the thumbnails with no loss of image quality.

But I would go with the recommendation that you pre-process the images so that your contact sheet has the pre-cropped images.

Is the area in the exact same location on all images? If so, you could create an action to crop all of the images first before printing the contact sheet. If it's in the exact center, you could resize the images to that area.

thank you for the quick reply!

Yes, the area to be cropped is a rectangle always in the same position.

I thought too to create an action, but I dont know how to merge it with the ContactSheet command - if not overwriting the original images.

You say that I have to crop&save all the images, and then use ContactSheet?

You will probably have to crop and save the images first (you can batch this into a separate folder instead of overwriting the originals, which I would strongly recommend in case there are any errors). I don't use the contact sheet command (I prefer to use GraphicConverter for contact sheets as it works better for my workflow) so i am not familiar with it, but it doesn't seem to have a way to run an action the way that the Image Processor does. At least not on my version (CS3, Mac). I don't have CS4 to check.
