CS1 magic wand crashing

When we use the Magic Wand with any kind of repetition in PhotoShop CS1 on our Dell Precision 670, Dual Processor, 1Gb RAM PCs, (slow down all you Mac people!) it crashes! Anybody else have this problem? Anybody have a cure?
