CS3 saving issue

I'm working off CS3 for work. I'm scanning and saving negatives but when i save the image it save on the computer but Photoshop doesn't recognize that it's been saved. I go to save as select the file i want and rename it. I'm saving as a Tiff in the file on my hard drive the image is there but when i'm in photoshop it acts as if i never saved. It only recognizes that it's been saved after i go back to resave and I replace the file I've already created.
