It looks like PS Elements will let you batch insert filenames into images (How can I Bulk add file name to picture ).  Is there an equivalent process hidden in CS6 somewhere, or is it something you can only do with a script?

Scripts are the only way to automate that. Scripts can be run from any folder on your system.  At the bottom of your menu File>Scripts>Names List is a browse button. You can select a script from anywhere.

There are Photoshop scripts that will add metadata like Filename, exif info, etc as text layers.  You can find them with a web search.

Are scripts the only option?  I don't have administrative access to the script folder at the location where I need to do this.
