When ever I click Curves in CS5, the layers icon shows the Brightness/Contrast

icon not the Curves icon. How do you fix this?

Try this: Go to Preferences >: Performance and uncheck Enable open GL Drawing.

    Restart Photoshop.

    What is your OS version?

Norman, you won't believe this. After messing around, I found you just right click on the layer icon and change it to Medium Thumbnails! Everything is correct now. Wow! Thank you very much for your help and time!

(Melissa, there is no Properties panel in CS5)

I am not certain what you mean by Curves icon  in the Layers icon but think you are referring to Curves as an Adjustment layer  in the Layers panel chosen from the "Create new fill or adjustment layer" icon at the bottom of the Layers panel.

If that is what you have in mind, and clicking on Curves…  brings up Brightness/Contrast, try this:

Close Photoshop and then reopen it. If the problem remains, reset your Preferences.

Melissa: My memory is not so hot either. I meant to include the following, but forgot.

    Kevin:

    Resetting Prefs:

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings. The new preferencesfiles are created the next time you start Photoshop.
