to begin with im not even sure im using the right adobe app but who knows.

All i want to do is put a certain amount of dots in a certain colour on a canvas without having to manually place them.

For example i want to put 650 yellow dots on a black canvas without having to do it with the brush tool, does anybody know a filter or action that will help me with this??

Cheers!

Since 65 is only divisible by 5 (and 1, of course) is there some special arrangement of the dots that you have in mind?

Hi Lewis,

If you are not sure you are using the right app and if you have Illustrator, I would do it this way:

  • In Illustrator, create one yellow dot, drag it into the Symbols panel, and name it.
  • Use the Symbol sprayer tool to spray the symbols across the artboard. This will show up as a Symbol Set in the Layers panel
  • Use the other symbolism tools to move them, scale them, spread them apart, pull them closer, apply a tint, apply a layer style, etc. Option (Alt) does the opposite: for example, if you scaled one bigger, Option + click would make it smaller. If you need to change the size of the target area (the brush), use the square brackets [  ] just as you would in PS.

Create a dot pattern and fill a selection.  Use a Pattern fill script to scale, space, position, color, light and rotate the Pattern.
