Question

default apps in windows 10

On updating to the latest creative cloud PS2021, Camera Raw and LR classic these are visible as installed apps but are not available under the "set defaults by app" menu.

They cannot be found under "open with".

I tried putting this...

“C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop cc 2021\Photoshop.exe” “%1”

in under .jpg

but photoshop is still not an option.

The previous versions were available.  Am I missing something?

There is a solution… at least one that has worked for me. Go into windows file manager and right click on any JPG image. A small dialog box will appear. Go to the bottom and click on "properties." and second line (below the flie name) should be "opens with." Go to the location for your Photoshop executable and simply click on "photoshop.exe." No guarantees that this will work after the next windows update, but it is a quick and easy solution for when you cannot update to Photoshop in the Window's default apps setting.

FYI: "open with" works for Photoshop, to set it as default, but it will not work for Lightroom-Classic!

Lr-Classic does not 'Open' image files. It will only open Lr-Catalogs (.LRCAT file-type).

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.3, Photoshop 27.5, ACR 18.3, Lightroom 9.3, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.3 .

Check your Windows registry key Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command

This is not the solution. Already correct as JJMack shows... but Photoshop is not listed as an available application for the JPG file extension.

Another issue of similar note: Windows automatically defaults PDF extention back to Edge with every update, no matter how minor. In this case, Acrobat DC is at least listed as an alternative application for the extension.
