Question

Delete an image on Photoshop

I was recently opening some images using photoshop as I didn't have a default application for certain images.  I now want to delete those images as I've realized what they are and don't want to use them.  When I'm on the main page in photoshop, the images show as recent images.  How can I delete them from photoshop so they don't appear at all in the future?

That's right. Clearing recent files from the home screen doesn't delete the file.

If you really want to delete the file from your machine, you have to do that from a file browser like Windows Explorer or Bridge.

The Photoshop home screen is just a reference, a pointer, to a given location on disk. It's not a file manager, just a convenience feature to let you quickly pick up where you left off before lunch.

File > Open Recent > Clear Recent File List

(it only clears references & thumbs to these files)
