Question

Disk error while importing from Lightroom

I am currently running Lightroom Classic version 13.2 and Photoshop version 25.5.0.
Last week when attempting to export from lightroom to Photoshop for further editing I am getting a "Could not open “752C8634.CR2” because of a disk error." error message when using one of my external hard drives. I can access and open the same file in Photoshop when I open it directly from Photoshop. I only receive the error when trying to export from Lightroom for further editing. I have not to my knowledge done anything or changed anytime in the two programs prior to experiencing this error.
Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

First question for clarification- Are you EXPORTING a file to edit in Photoshop, or are you using the default LrC command [EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP] [Ctrl+E]?

'Exporting' a file requires you to set a Destination for the exported file (eg. an external drive- that has full write permissions.) in the Export dialog, and then setting Photoshop as the editor in the 'Post Processing' panel of the Export dialog.  'Export' first creates a derivative file saved to disk before it finally opens in Photoshop.

'Edit in Photoshop' sends your image from Lightroom-Classic direct to Photoshop. A new derivative file with the Ps edits is not created until you [Save] the image and it is automatically saved back to the LrC catalog in the same folder as the original image.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .

Rob, thank you for your response.  I apoilogize for not being more clear.  This error occurs when using the default LrC command {Edit in Photoshop} using [Ctrl + E].  When working in Lr I am accessing the drive in question so the drive is functional.  I can also open the same file directly in Ps using the file open command fromt the menu bar.  The error only occurs when using the Ctrl +E command.

Again, I appreiatre your help.
