Question

DNG Converter 13.0 and 13.1 "Windows 10 and above required." - Can not install on Windows 8.1

Hello

I tried to update DNG Converter to version 13.1 and it fails saying "Windows 10 and above required"

Ref:  https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/detail.jsp?ftpID=7055

DNG Converter 12.4 WORKS with Windows 8.1

DNG Converter 13.0 will not install "Windows 10 and above required"

DNG Converter 13.1 will not install "Windows 10 and above required"

Can we have a verion that works with all supported versions of Windows?

Perhaps there is a bypass for this "Windows 10 and above required" issue?

Thanks,

Andrew

Would you be willing to upgrade to Windows 10? I heard Win 7 and 8.1 users can still get the Windows 10 upgrade for free:

Hello War Unicorn

Thanks for the tip (I did not realise the 'free' upgrade had re-surfaced.

I don't really want to upgrade just to get past this issue with the DNG Converter.   I'm asking they can maintain compatability with (still supported OS levels)... without any luck.

Worst case is use a 'test' machine with WIN 10 .... Install DNG Converter there (at V13.0+) and then convert RAW files.  Finally move those to the 'prod' system and inport to LRc.

Cheers,

Andrew

Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 8.1 in January 2018 although extended support (bugfixes and patches) continues till 2023.

Photoshop currently requires Windows 10 v1809 or later (v1809 was release in 2018)

I don't know of any way around those system requirements

Hi Dave

Thanks for the response.

Yes, Win 8.1 is patched to Jan 2023 (so its a supported OS from Microsoft perspective).

Adobe released DNG Converter V12.4  ***8/18/2020 *** ... just 4 months ago and that is fine with WIN 8.1.

In the past 4 months they updated from V12.4 to V13.0  and V13.1  and those mandate "Windows 10 and above required".

Its a pretty simple tool, I can't see why they require Windows 10+ ?

Fair enough on the Photoshop requirements, however the Adobe DNG Converter should allow any supported Windows version to convert RAW to DNG format... after all its in Adobe's interest to promote this open (DNG) standard.

Hopefully somebody knows the reason you now REQUIRE Windows 10 to to convet a RAW to DNG with Adobe DNG Converter.

Cheers,

Andrew

Sorry - I just realised you said DNG convertor - I was thinking ACR when I responded which has had a considerable update.

None of us here are developers so cannot comments as to whether there is a technical reason. You may be better off asking here, where staff will see it:
