Does PS override macOS "Open With" option?

I have a file for a project-in-process which I created originally using CS6. Now I am using CC 2018, and I would like to open all files in that app. However, when I open MacOS's "Get Info" dialogue and tell the OS to make CC 2018 my default app for all PSD files, the change doesn't occur. I can open the file once with CC 2018 from a right-click, but the default reverts immediately to CS6. Does PS override this macOS option? If so, can I change that?

FYI, I am using macOS Sierra, v 10.12.4 on a new iMac.

Thanks!

It does sometimes.  Can't Make Adobe Photoshop CC 2018 Default Application in macOS Sierra

I fixed my problem by uninstalling the prior versions, but not the preferences if I wanted to reinstall.

Then I set my file associations to CC 2018 and then reinstalled any older versions.

Any reason you have not updated to 10.12.6?

I think I'll just live with it. And for the same reason I haven't yet updated to 10.12.6 -- I'm focused on getting the work done, not on maintaining the &%#$%(*&^ system. Thanks for the reminder, though. I'll get on it later today.
