Question

DPI randomly changing

Hey Everyone,

So I have a client that requests very specific exporting settings, they are asking it be 3000 x 2251 px at 300 dpi.

First, when trying to export it as such in Lightroom the exported image comes out as 3000 x 2250 at 300 dpi no matter what I do. I am aware lightroom is known for changing images by a pixel or so, so I brought the images into photoshop. I immediately did Image-> Image Size-> and adjust it accordingly to the settings I need. I then closed that out, and went to Export As-> then did JPEG with it at 100% quality.

Looking at the exported images they come out to 3000 x 2251 at 96 DPI.

For the life of me I can not get them to export out at 300 DPI in photoshop or with the correct pixels out of Lightroom.

As my instructor would say, "The only dumb questions are the ones you don't ask."

    Glad that did it.

Try File > Save As... and choose Jpeg   It will preserve the 300 ppi metadata

Alternatively: File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy) and choose "All" under Metadata

The problem is that the Export As command in Photoshop removes the 300 ppi metadata and assigns the default Windows 96 ppi (72 ppi for Mac users).

Why? I think this function is for preparing images for the Web, not Print, and the Print Metadata is removed.
