Drawing lines around subjects

I don’t know why its so hard to find a instructions on how to do this. Extremely frustrating. I simply want to know how to draw lines around subjects, like drawing a spiral around a person that goes both behind and in front of them like it’s “wrapping” around them.

I would also do what Jane said. Add a layer mask to your spiral layer. Make a selection of your subject, then just paint out the parts of the spiral that go behind the subject.

One way is to use a layer mask for the spiral and paint on the mask to hide the parts that go “behind”.
