duplicate animated layer?

i'm making an animated gif with multiple layers that move and i need to duplicate one of the animated layers and have the animation be duplicated too. just duplicating the layer by right-clicking and choosing "duplicate layer" doesn't duplicate the movement. how do i do this?

If you want to animate independently moving elementes I think you may want to look into Timeline Animation.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Timeline, Options Bar, …) visible?
