Duplicate text in linked layers

I am trying to change the text in layer 1 and would like layer 2 to automatically duplicate the text in layer 1

Do you mean cloned Smart Object? Here are the steps:

Convert type layer to Smart Object layer (right click on layer and choose Convert to Smart Object)
Duplicate Smart Object layer using Ctrl/Cmd + J what will create cloned Smart Object layer.(and move it so you can see it).
Edit any of two smart object layers then confirm changes what will update and other cloned Smart Object layer.
