Question

Embed Illustrator file with white background retained in Photoshop

I've been Place Embedding Illustrator files (PDF or ai files) that need a white background into photoshop - basically label art that goes onto a product container.

Most of the time it works, but lately some files have been coming into Photoshop with a transparent background, while others embed fine with the desired white background.

What can i do to ensure the Illustrator file retains its white background when embedding into Photoshop?

Unless the Illustrator file has an opaque white background in it, when placed in Photoshop the background will be transparent.

Ensure that Illustrator file has white background. By default you are starting without any background. In Illustrator go to View > Show Transparency Grid to see whether you have any background.

Has something changed about the Illustrator files you are embedding? Do the previous Illustrator files actually have a solid white background contained within them?
