Erasing with Wacom pen button held down is laggy and loses pressure sensitivity randomly

I had pressure sensitivity issues in CS6 and never got them solved, moved to CC2017 and was somewhat issue free. Now after upgrading to 2018 I lose pressure sensitivity randomly when I erase with pen button held down. It's also very laggy. I've updated all my drivers so far and toggled Windows Ink on and off but no luck. There's no problem with the eraser head at the other end of the pen but both buttons on the pen seem to have this issue.
