Executing terminal/command line -stuff from inside of Photoshop

Hello,

I am investigating the possibility to execute terminal (OSX) and command line (Win) -stuff from inside of Photoshop.
So far I have only found this hacky workaround of creating a temp file and writing a line to it before executing the file:Help needed - Command line execution script is not working?

But I am wondering if there is any more efficient way of doing this?

The reason I am asking is because I want to perform some Perforce (P4) commands from inside of Photoshop.

(I am aware of P4GT and this is not what I am after unfortunately).

It's probably not so efficient as executing written shell files but you can try: system()
