Export to .PNG does not allow me to save metadata

I used to be able to save metadata for my photos when exporting them to .PNG. However, for the last few days, I keep getting an error message saying that the file was exported but there was an error saving the metadata. I searched and found that some people were having the same problem so I tried exporting my photos as .JPG (even though I don't like it) but I got the same error message.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there a solution to fix this?

I'm using Photoshop CC on a Macbook Pro, all at the latest versions and levels.

That shouldn't matter, but have you tried saving somewhere else (such as your Desktop) to see if that work?

I have similar problem. I can see the copyright info when exported as JPG however with PNG no metadata information is showing up. I am saving the photos to local disk only.

Maybe I should add to this post that I'm saving my photos and Exporting them directly to my Dropbox for Business drive. Just in case anyone would think that this matters or maybe the cause of my problem.

I hadn't tried it before but I did just now and it worked fine - no errors. So it seems it does matter. I now need to find out why it can't save the metadata when exporting the image to my Dropbox folder.

Any ideas from anyone?

Within the Export tab of the Photoshop Preferences is an option for Quick Export Metadata. Does this help?

Thanks. I checked the Preferences and it's already set to for Copyright and Contact Info. I still get the same error.

I own a 2012 MBP running Catalina. I have never seen this problem. My only thought is to go into Security & Privacy in your Mac and see if Photoshop has permissions here,

And here:  You can also add Ps to "Full Disk Access."

Thanks. I added PS to the Accessibility. PS was already set up for full disk access for the files and folders. But it still gives me the same error message - assets are exported but couldn't write the metadata.

Have you tried File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy)? There you can choose your metadata options. Only limitation is that the file cannot be larger thean 8192 pixels either side.

I can suggest resetting Preferences when you finish your work to see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks. I've not tried the legacy option before. I didn't even know it existed. I'll check it out. I'll also try resetting the Preferences, as you have suggested.

Update: I've tried the legacy option and that doesn't save the metadata too. Only this time, it doesn't give me any error messages.

Update: I tried resetting the preferences but that didn't solve the problem either.
